Institute Overview
The Committee on Graduate and Postdoctoral Education seeks applications from graduate students for the 2008 ASM Presentation Institute on May 31 - June 1 in Boston, MA.
Goal
The goal of this one-and a half day workshop is to develop the skills needed to make a successful presentation at a scientific meeting and interact in a professional manner with colleagues. Emphasis will be on 3- and 10-minute oral presentations.
Learning Outcomes
- Able to professionally introduce self in one-on-one and small group interactions that occur in a variety of situations at a national meeting.
- Able to make an oral presentation in ones scientific area
- Able to provide a good title for an abstract
- Understand essentials of writing a good abstract
- Understand essential of preparing a good poster
- Understand ethical issues about authorship, presentations at multiple meetings
- Understand professional dress, language, and behavior
Training Format
1½ day program with didactic training, small and individual group work, and pre-assignments.
